A critical situation has developed in the U.S. where Engineers and IT professionals are being sacked and replaced with foreign professionals at a lower rate of pay. Some of the Companies allegedly threaten these sacked professionals with a total loss of severance pay if they do not train these foreign replacements. These foreign replacements can expect to earn between 20 and 33 % less than that prevailing. Politicians are being pressurised by Corporate America to allow more H1B Visas. Unfortunately, The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) - USA is supporting this. This is due to the fact that many of the IEEE Executives are also Corporate Executives. This policy is also being exercised in Europe as well. The career span of an Engineer is now about 15 years due to outsourcing and the importation of foreign professionals. Also, age discrimination by Corporate America is rampant. All of this reverberates internationally and it is only a matter of time until Europe is in phase with America on these matters.
So, have a good think before you decide to study Professional Engineering or Computers !
